Although Spring has had its starts and stops this year, the change to consistent warmer weather is inevitable. That means more time outdoors, activities, and fun with friends, and Chamber events!
Speaking of change, with all of the new initiatives taking shape in Lexington, the Chamber has recently done a self-assessment with who we are, how we look, what we say, how we connect, and our perceived role in Lexington. It’s also easy to forget that our community is visible via the internet to people beyond the local area. We must learn to view ourselves as others see us.
In the spirit of this new momentum, the Chamber will also be making some changes. We will be working with Gary Worth, a 35 year veteran marketing and graphic consultant. Gary is local co-owner of River Reader Bookstore.
Partnering with Gary, the new strategy is to create a more member-oriented Chamber in all of our communications: website, social media, newsletter, and more. We’re exploring additional media opportunities that add a younger, tech-savvy audience to the mix. We also believe it’s time to get back to core functions of our Chamber… our members. If you own a business, we think you’ll like what we have in mind. Some of these changes are already being implemented. Expect to see even more in the near future. All of these changes and initiatives have the potential to increase overall awareness for Lexington; as a city moving forward, offering opportunity for commerce, and the foundation for great place to live.
Wine & Dine, A Taste of Lexington and Beyond
Now in its second year, this Chamber function will provide an evening to try samples from local restaurants, caterers, food-related businesses, and wineries on Saturday, May 11th at the Wentworth Military Academy from 5:30 until 8:00 pm.
Eighteen food and wine partners will be waiting with delicious samples of the best of what they offer. You'll find everything from barbecue to wedding cake, and everything in between. You won't go home hungry! May 11th is also Wine Tourism Day, a celebration of local wineries throughout the United States, so we are in good company!
Wine & Dine is the perfect venue for guests to explore area food and wine options all in one place, try them, and consider patronizing them at a future time. The Chamber has ramped up its marketing efforts to promote each partner prior to the event, and we will continue this afterward. It's all about featuring local businesses.
Tickets are only $10 per person, available at the Chamber office; $15 at the door. Please join us May 11th and taste the best Lexington and beyond has to offer! View the Wine & Dine flier, or read a description of all food and wine partners for the event.
Downtown Block Party
The Chamber has chaired several meetings regarding our upcoming Block Party on Main Street. We are collaborating with the Executive and Marketing arms of the Chamber, Tourism, Old Trails Region, the newly-formed Arts Council, and other devoted volunteers. Because of scheduled guests in Lexington that weekend there is an opportunity to put a much different spin on this event, perhaps with a more international flavor. We’ll keep it a surprise for now and final plans are still in the works… but expect "teaser ads" and a formal announcement about this downtown party very soon!
